Ingredients:
- 1 cup moong dal (split mung beans), washed and soaked in water for 4 hours
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- A pinch of saffron strands
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds or cashews
Instructions:
- Drain the soaked moong dal and grind it to a coarse paste without adding water.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai, heat the ghee over medium heat.
- Add the ground moong dal and sauté for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and fragrant.
- In another pan, heat the milk and saffron strands over medium heat, until it comes to a boil.
- Add the boiled milk to the moong dal mixture and stir well.
- Add the sugar and stir until it has dissolved.
- Continue cooking on low heat for another 20-25 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened and the liquid has been absorbed.
- Add the cardamom powder and mix well.
